€^£^¥^ß I really like Mr. Kate's approach to making ambient music, because the music does not work its way into your subconscious through subversion but is rather direct in its emotional sensibilities, instead. This album is an excellent showcase of some of the best virtues of ambient music: it is engrossing, filled with sonic and textural richness, and emotionally focused but with many approaches to that area of focus through the utilization of various hues of a rather monochromatic sonic palate; the combination of which produces a kaleidoscope of emotional responses. Favorite track: Endless Complicity.

about

In the short time between the completion of ’00’ and its release, we’ve seen increasing evidence that we’re in cultural and political freefall. This collection of double zeroes alternates between hard, careful, rhythmic attacks and blustering drones. The emotional and theoretical concerns that went into this album’s production continue to grow more urgent in the wake of its composition.

I had hoped to create something that would simultaneously hammer against neoliberalism and cut an escape from the despair of its suffocating web. Seven short soundtracks for resistance. Seven songs lost in the confusion of what that resistance looks like.

Continuing where I left off with ‘Despairer’ in March of 2016, I’ve explored sonic textures as the antithesis of new age music: far from the meditative ineffable and into engaged materialism. I’ve been making a daily practice of testing where the hands and heart meet in synthesis. And given where I am in this world, given where we are in this world, I’ve generated bleak synth timbres of frustration, tracks that coalesce into focused staccato points before dissolving into epistemic confusion.

With urgency
And love
Marc.
